EYG provides all glazing on new £2m state-of-the-art 24-hour Vet Hospital

EYG Commercial were delighted to be chosen as the sole glazing supplier for a new £2m state-of-the-art veterinary surgery which offers round the clock care for pets across East Yorkshire.

The new Wicstun Veterinary Hospital, in Market Weighton, is independently run and includes three theatres, its own in house imagery suite for x-rays, and a laboratory.

It also boasts a hydrotherapy unit for rehabilitation and can offer laparoscopic surgeries, which are less invasive and therefore help reduce recovery times.

EYG were selected for the glazing contract on the 1,400 sq m building following a tendering process which sought respected local businesses with established reputations, which were able to be cost-effective on price.

Our teams were amongst the first contractors on site in December 2019, at which point we completed the installation of all windows, before returning in March 2020 of this year to complete the installation of all external doors.

This included a high-specification main automatic entrance door which included significant steelwork and design input from our skilled draftsmen.

The installation team returned to site in July 2020 to complete the final aspects of the job, following a three-month shutdown in works due to Covid-19, handing over to the client ahead of the facility opening to the public.

Philip Walker, who acted as client agent and project manager of the development, said he had been impressed with the EYG team throughout.

“EYG were excellent from start to finish. We were very clear that the businesses we chose to work on this project had to be local first and foremost, with a good reputation, and businesses that were able to offer a good price,” he said.

“EYG fit the bill on all three of those requirements and I was very impressed at how they worked, from the initial design stage to the quality of product and installation.

“There had been some talk initially of the building having aluminium windows, but after discussions we decided to go for the anthracite grey UPVC to be more traditional, and we have been thrilled with the quality of the product and are delighted that decision was taken.”

EYG’s project manager for the job, Rich McNeil, said it had been an excellent contract for the firm.

“This was one of those jobs which was rewarding all round because it is an excellent local facility, and as we were amongst the first contractors on site after the main build, our team were able to crack on with the job in hand,” he said.

“It has been an excellent project as there were no issues whenever we were on site and it was a good, clean site to work on.

“The installations were all pretty straight forward, apart from the main entrance as that required a lot of detailed design from our draughtsmen given the amount of steelwork required around it.

“It has made for an impressive entrance to the building though and we were delighted to get positive feedback from the client who indicated they would be willing to work with us again, which is always a good sign of a job well done.”
