Their mission was to raise money to help fund extensive facial reconstructive surgery for a close family member. Surgery that was urgently needed to save his life.
Despite the ongoing pain and life-threatening nature of his condition, the waiting time for NHS surgery was at least eight months. Private treatment in the UK would have cost £50,000.
Fortunately, a family friend, a doctor in Belgium, knew of a renowned jaw specialist consultant who agreed to perform the reconstructive surgery within just three months and for less than half the UK cost. The operation was performed in June and was a success, alleviating the constant pain and effectively saving his life.
