Scarborough College gets a Residence listing

Residence 9 windows, part of The Residence Collection, have been specified on a listed building refurbishment project at Scarborough College in North Yorkshire, having been approved by planners at Scarborough Local Council and these will be installed over the course of several phases. Scarborough College is an independent day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 3 to 18 years and has been providing boarding and day education in Scarborough for nearly 120 years. Given the current state of some of the windows at the school, the decision was made by governors to replace all the glazing and roof as part of a large investment programme.

Local companies have all been employed on the project that involved the manufacture of the grained white, mechanically jointed Residence 9 (R9) windows featuring Georgian bars and monkey tail handles by SWC Trade Frames and installed by Centurion Windows, both Scarborough based companies. With around 150 windows in total, this is one of the larger projects for The Residence Collection, which is being carried out in several phases so as to minimise any disruption with the school.

Mark Catchpole, sales director at SWC Trade Frames commented: ‘We enjoy commercial contracts, particularly those in our own town. R9 was the obvious, arguably the only choice for the project given the sensitive nature of this listed building and we’re delighted to be part of the project.’

His thoughts were echoed by Richard Kirby, managing director of Centurion Windows: ‘This is a wonderful project and fulfilled by local companies with a great reputation. R9 is the ultimate window for listed buildings and went through planning with ease and we look forward to completing the remaining phases in due course.’

Sarah Hitchings, sales and marketing director of The Residence Collection concluded: ‘We’re thrilled to be part of this refurbishment project on a listed building, fully proving that R9 is the ultimate heritage casement window and one that’s valued by planners. We’ve even got marketing support materials to help our customers with projects in conservations areas and for these types of buildings, for what was once the domain of timber only. We’re now actively helping to break this way of thinking with considerable success.’
