Senior’s innovative curtain walling is on the rise

With many oversees supply chains being disrupted by the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, UK-based fenestration solutions manufacturer Senior Architectural Systems is ready to hit the ground running as the construction industry continues its cautious return.

As Senior remained operational throughout the lockdown period to provide fenestration products for a number of healthcare projects and other essential contracts, the company has been able to quickly adapt to the new market challenges. Offering a wide range of high-performance range of aluminium curtain wall systems, window and doors suitable for a variety of different applications, all of Senior’s aluminium fenestration solutions are manufactured here in the UK.

Senior’s aluminium curtain wall solutions include the thermally-efficient, SF52 system and the innovative SF62 system, which is ideally suited for high-rise developments and other buildings where structural movement is a challenge.  Senior’s aluminium curtain wall options are fully compatible with its range of aluminium windows and doors, providing a cost-effective solution and helping to further minimise risk within the supply chain.

Offering a range of in-house services included full design and technical support and a nationwide delivery service, Senior also benefits from having its own state of the art powder coating facility at its South Yorkshire HQ, as well as an experienced and reliable network of fabricators and installers.

Senior’s SF62 aluminium curtain wall system has been specifically developed for use on projects where structural movement may be a challenge, such as high-rise schemes or those that incorporate large glass infills and mullion and transom spans.  Combining an attractive robust aluminium frame with a wider 62mm box, the increased rebate size means that it is possible to provide either additional clearance between the section and infill, so that the system can accommodate greater building movement, or greater edge cover if required.

Using a specially designed transom end connection, the new SF62 curtain wall system can support transom loads of up to 750kg and, as a result of it is larger frame, it can achieve bigger mullion spans without the need for additional supporting steel. Not only does this remove potential extra costs and risks, but also creates a façade that benefits from wider views and maximum daylighting.

Similar in design to Senior’s popular SF52 Mullion drained aluminium curtain wall system, the new SF62 also boasts exceptional thermal performance that provides the possibility to not only meets, but exceed, current building regulations, and has been fully CWCT Sequence B and EN 13050 weather tested.
