Timberlook windows make perfect addition to challenging thatched cottage installation

A challenging heritage installation delivered by Concept Glazing was made possible thanks to Timberlook’s unique heritage style PVC-U windows. The project, which involved installing over 45 heritage-style PVC-U Timberlook windows in a 200-year old thatched cottage, required exceptional skill which was effortlessly demonstrated by the Bournemouth-based installer.

Determined to achieve a delicate balance between preserving historical authenticity and introducing performance features, Concept Glazing selected Timberlook’s heritage window range for this particular project.

“When you’re working with a 200-year-old thatched cottage, every detail matters,” explains Jake Connolly, Director at Concept Glazing. “Our clients were passionate about maintaining the property’s historical character, but they also wanted the benefits of modern windows. Timberlook’s heritage range struck that perfect balance – they look completely authentic but perform like cutting-edge windows.”

The installation featured Timberlook’s flush sash windows, specified with black outer frames, white sashes, and astragal bars – a classic combination that perfectly complemented the cottage’s traditional architecture.

Key to the project’s success was Timberlook’s attention to traditional joinery details. The range incorporates mechanical Timberweld joints instead of welded corners, authentic wood grain finishes, and traditional black Monkeytail handles.

Amelia Gaughan, Head of Marketing at Affordable Windows Group, commented: “When we developed the Timberlook range, this is exactly the kind of project we had in mind. The installation showcases how our heritage windows can satisfy the most demanding requirements for period properties. It’s particularly gratifying to see our attention to authentic details, such as our mechanical joints and traditional styling, being recognised at this level.”

These design elements, combined with modern uPVC technology, delivered the perfect solution for this heritage project.

Additionally, the technical aspects of the installation were equally impressive. Concept Glazing’s team carried out the installation with precision and care, ensuring each window aligned perfectly with the building’s original character. The A-rated energy efficiency of Timberlook’s windows has significantly improved the cottage’s thermal performance, while the advanced weather sealing systems will provide excellent protection against the elements for years to come.

This stunning heritage installation was also recognised as the FENSA Installation of the Year at the end of 2024. This prestigious award is testament to both the quality of the products used as well as the high levels of technical skills and customer service demonstrated throughout the project. Concept Glazing’s methodical approach, coupled with Timberlook’s heritage-appropriate design features, created an installation that excelled in all these areas.

For installers looking to expand into the heritage market, this installation provides a compelling example of what can be achieved with the right combination of products and expertise.
