Titon’s products were incorporated into the windows fabricated by Dungiven-based Compass Windows & Doors, Ireland’s premier manufacturer of PVCu windows and doors.
Throughout the various projects, a combination of different Titon products were used, including SFSA Xtra 2500EA Vents, SF418 Canopies, SFSA Xtra 2500EA Sound Attenuator Vents (25mm and 75mm versions), and SFSA 2500EA 75mm Sound Attenuator Canopies.
Commenting on the fabrication, Liam McCarney, General Manager, Compass Windows & Doors, said: “We have used Titon products on many projects previously, so were well aware they could meet the specification required. In fact, not only did the vents and canopies meet and exceed expectations, Titon was also able to offer the powder-coating colour options the customer wanted. We always knew we could rely on Titon not just for high quality products, but also great customer service.”
The SF Xtra Sound Attenuator vents keep external noise levels down to more acceptable volumes, as well as provide sufficient air flow in accordance with the Building Regulations for ventilation, when used in the correct quantities. Suitable for domestic and commercial installations, in certain situations the SF Xtra Sound Attenuator can be retrofitted over Titon’s standard 13mm slot. A high-performance gasket on the ventilator improves the sealing in adverse conditions, while the vent can also be mounted to deflect air upwards or downwards. Plus, a number of special paint finishes are also available.
The SF Xtra Sound Attenuator ventilator is part of Titon’s SF Xtra range – and is already being widely specified throughout the UK by housebuilders and developers. Using the SF Xtra ventilator and canopy as its base products, the SF Xtra Sound Attenuator, as its name suggests, offers much-improved levels of sound attenuation, especially when compared to similar ‘acoustic’ products. This is supported by accurate data from an independent UK acoustic test house, with full details available from Titon upon request.
The SF Xtra Sound Attenuator can be purchased in a number of combinations based on different sizes of inner (ventilator) and outer (canopy). Combinations can be chosen depending on the sound attenuation requirement and can achieve up to Dn,e,w (C;Ctr) = 44 (-2;-3)dB when it is open.
With more and more projects requiring ventilation that offers sound attenuating properties, the construction industry is finding it difficult to ensure specifications are met correctly. As a result, it needs to be understood that, as soon as ventilation is provided, there will be a compromise on the amount of noise let in, and vice versa. Not all ventilator manufacturer literature makes this clear; however, Titon recognises this and can educate and advisors customers on the potential pitfalls.
