Titon has developed the Asterion 3-star high security door cylinder

With home security now high on the industry agenda following the publication of Approved Document Q of the Building Regulations, Titon has developed and launched Asterion high security door cylinder. This new 3-star, highly price-competitive, anti-intervention profile door cylinder has been developed for PVC-U, timber, aluminium or composite doors. Asterion has been TS007 Kitemarked 3-Star by the BSI in accordance with DHF (Door & Hardware Federation) and GGF (Glass & Glazing Federation) requirements, as well as tested to BS EN 1303:2005. The new cylinder can also attain PAS 24 when used with standard handles; this is important, as all dwellings under Part Q of the Building Regulations to levels such as PAS 24. It is therefore a more cost-effective option to fit a 3-star cylinder than a 1-star cylinder used with a 2-star handle.

Asterion has a number of high security features, including a sacrificial break slot, which is designed to snap off when forced – making the cylinder more difficult to grip if it is tampered with. Available in sizes ranging from a nominal 72mm to 110mm, the cylinder has a high security six-pin mechanism (with anti-bump modified upper and lower stainless steel inner pins) and is supplied with five keys as standard. Asterion has been specifically designed and developed to withstand methods favoured by burglars, including drilling, picking, bumping, snapping and plug extraction, shielding it from specialist tools. The new Asterion cylinder range is available in satin nickel plate or satin brass finishes and can be purchased as a double cylinder, cylinder & turn knob, keyed alike or potentially master keyed option. The cylinder & turn knob variant features a new two-stage thumb turn operation to assist in thwarting break-ins via lock operation through a letter plate, which is a prescribed entry method of the TS008 Technical Specification.

Titon’s design expertise has enabled the product and the company’s manufacture and supply processes to pass the stringent BSI Kitemark assessment which, in conjunction with its existing 9001 & 14001 certification, gives peace of mind to customers and specifiers. Commenting on the new hardware, Tyson Anderson, Sales & Marketing Director at Titon, said: “We have worked hard to ensure the Asterion door cylinder raises the bar in terms of home security, meeting the highest industry standards and assisting in compliance with Part Q and PAS24. Capable of withstanding five types of attack, the product achieves the TS007 Kitemark 3-star rating while reassuring homeowners that their properties are safe and secure.”
