Veka Recycling’s latest acquisition in the Midlands grows UK network

Industry leader VEKA Recycling has added a second waste PVC collection and processing facility to its UK operation with the acquisition of family-run Trafford Services (Midlands) Ltd, for an undisclosed sum.

From June 1st, the Bilston site in the West Midlands adds 20,000 sq ft of weighbridge, processing and storage facilities to VEKA Recycling’s business. Post-industrial and post-consumer PVC window frame material is reduced in size and sent in 24-tonne loads to Kent where it is processed to a high standard of purity for use in new goods.

“Having this second centrally-located site means that local installers, fabricators and waste management companies can benefit from our reliable service with prompt payment for waste PVC frames,” says Tony Cattini, Managing Director of VEKA Recycling.

“Trafford Services has worked closely with us since 2007, so the company is already familiar with our focus on getting the infeed quality right and reducing contamination. This is vital in maintaining the high quality of our 100% recycled PVC-U pellet and micronised PVC-U (pulver),” he continues.

The successful acquisition is the culmination of year-long negotiations and builds on lessons learnt from VEKA Recycling’s pilot trial in Barnsley last year.

“Having restructured our business and launched our pellet sales, now’s the right time for this strategic acquisition,” adds Tony. “It’s also great news for environmental sustainability; with our VEKA model here in the Midlands we will be ensuring more waste PVC frames will be diverted from landfill for recycling back into new windows and other PVC-U products.”

Trafford Services (Midlands) Ltd was set up by Managing Director Ken Higgins three years ago. It will continue to be run by his son Brad under VEKA Recycling’s ownership. Ken’s sister company, Trafford Services Ltd, a larger recycling company based in Harpurhey, Manchester, remains privately-owned and is managed by his other son Dean.
