Window Widgets diverts 42 tonnes of PVC waste from landfill in the last 12 months

Ancillaries firm, Window Widgets, has announced they diverted 42 tonnes of PVC waste from landfill in the last 12 months. Currently embarking on their second year of zero land-fill waste, Window Widgets has provided an update on their remarkable journey over the past year, reinforcing their dedication to a greener and more sustainable future. Diverting 42 tonnes of PVC waste away from landfill to be recycled is a fantastic achievement for Window Widgets and in comparison is the equivalent weight to seven African elephants or more than three London buses.

Not only have Window Widgets successfully diverted 42 tonnes of PVC waste from landfill but they have also recycled the following materials:

• 10 tonnes of cardboard
• 5.2 tonnes of aluminium swarf
• 21.7 tonnes of wood
• 1.6 tonnes of WE’EE and metal

Window Widgets achieved zero land-fill waste in February 2021 after a two-and-a-half-year waste management programme. The journey commenced in May 2018 with Window Widgets being determined to make a lasting impact on their environmental footprint and took significant steps to achieve this goal. The programme included:

• August 2018: The company engaged with a recycling processing equipment supplier and identified specific equipment requirements. These included a compactor for aluminium swarf, a mill-size baler for cardboard waste, and a 50kg baler for LDPE film waste
• December 2018: Window Widgets joined forces with Penfold Plastics to ensure that head waste and profile lengths under one metre were recycled, diverting these materials away from landfills
• January 2019: The ordered waste processing equipment was delivered and put to use, enabling the recycling of cardboard, plastic and ali swarf waste materials
• Throughout 2019: The company diligently segregated all waste into specific bins, compacted, and bailed it before removal from the site. This systematic approach ensured that waste materials were efficiently managed and prepared for recycling
• November 2020: Recognising the need for further efficiency in waste management, Window Widgets ordered an additional compactor to aid in the compaction of waste materials
• February 2021: Window Widgets moved their waste collection to Archer Recycling, who transported all general waste to Javelin Park for incineration. This strategic shift marked the final step in the journey towards achieving zero-landfill status
