Active Intelligent Adverts bring video and print media together

Operating in a sector which prides itself on its passion for innovation, Windows Active is again bringing its own bit of innovation to the print media segment of the window industry. Having pioneered the way print magazines can be read online via groundbreaking page-turning software, Windows Active is again at the forefront of technology that guarantees print media stays ahead of the game. Windows Active is pleased to announce the launch of its ‘Augmented Reality’ intelligent advertisement service. Bringing the worlds of video and print media together, the intelligent advert dramatically comes to life when viewed with a simple downloaded app on your smartphone. Brought to you in association with our software partner Layar, you will be able to view the videos via an app that has been downloaded over 38 millions times to view intelligent adverts in over 60,000 publications worldwide. John Cowie, Editorial Director at Windows Active, believes this creation is as significant as the early adoption by Windows Active of page-turning software: “It’s now over 10 years ago that we were first to this market with a product that allowed you to read a print magazine on your web browser. We are constantly researching new methods of enhancing our market-leading print magazine and I am a firm believer that ‘Augmented Reality’ – the bringing of static printed pages to life, has a place in our market. Videos are increasing in popularity but the question is, how do you draw in an audience?”

Augmented Reality is simply technology that helps merge worlds of online and offline to give a more interactive experience. After downloading the app onto your smartphone, all you have to do is scan an advert from the magazine where you see the ‘logo’ from where you will then be greeted with video content on your phone: “It’s very easy and something you will see more and more of across all sectors. Our partner Layar are the market leader and have many clients in all sectors, so your Layar app will cover a plethora of printed media, from home interest and sports to general interest.” With over 20 years experience in media within the window industry, John realises it is always important to innovate in the right areas: “There is no doubt this is a print-led market which starts from the ground up, from installers taking orders, to the delivery of brochures and catalogues. What we can do is embrace new ideas and incorporate them into tried and tested mediums. Videos are great ways to demonstrate products and promote your services, but it’s important to promote them to the audience as well in order to maximise views. If you see a new product in a magazine you like the look of, you probably wouldn’t mind seeing it being installed or manufactured. So by simply scanning the advert your wish is granted!”

Leading the launch is Windows Active Marketing and Sales Director Jon Glenister. He believes it adds another dimension to the marketing possibilities on offer from Windows Active: “More and more window companies are releasing videos to the trade, demonstrating products. The problem is getting installers and manufacturers to actually view the content. By promoting the video with an intelligent advert, you are telling over 10,000 readers about your video and offering them an easy way to access the content. We have various packages available that can create content from a standard A4 advert or a page advertorial. The possibilities are endless.”

So get your smartphones at the ready and head to the app stores and download the ‘Layar’ App.
