Active Wheels needed for industry colleague

In August 2018, the graphic designer from conservatory and extension specialist, Ultraframe, was involved in a tragic accident while enjoying one of the many sports that she loves – paragliding.

After landing safely following a tandem dive with her partner on Bowland Fell in Lancashire, a freak gust of wind carried the pair over 200m along the ground and through a stone wall. Rescue teams attended from Scotland, and the lady was airlifted to hospital but her injuries were found to be life-changing and sadly, she is now paralysed from the waist down due to her severe back injuries.

A popular member of the Ultraframe marketing team, prior to her accident she was a very active person and enjoyed walking, hiking, festivals and many extreme sports – including paragliding – so this prognosis is especially devastating. She is currently undergoing intensive rehabilitation at a centre in Southport and has amazed her family and friends with her courage and positive attitude.

Due to her love of extreme sports, the quality of wheelchair she uses will have a huge impact on her ability to be active and do the things she loves. With this in mind, the entire workforce at Ultraframe has joined together to raise vital funds to buy this life-changing equipment by creating a charity calendar, based on film/conservatory puns.

Staff from every department have taken part in a photoshoot which has seen Edward Scissorhands become Edwardian Scissorhands, Star Wars become Bar Wars and so on! As is fitting for the lady in question, the Ultraframe team has had a lot of fun, while raising money for such a special cause.

Alex Hewitt, Marketing Director at Ultraframe, said: “The entire Ultraframe team has been deeply saddened by the severe injuries sustained by our friend and colleague while doing something that she loves and we knew that we had to help in some way. As an extreme sports lover, it is imperative that she gets a high quality wheelchair which will help her continue to take part in some way, in the sports and activities that are her passion. We are hoping to be able to buy her the wheelchair that she needs from the sales of our charity calendar which can be purchased online. We are hoping that our many friends in the industry will help us in raising these vital funds for a fellow industry colleague.”
