Gaining momentum and growth

Labour’s spending plans to rebuild Britain offer some encouragement for the construction industry, although the extent of their impact remains uncertain. Shane Kerlin, Managing Director (UK & Ireland) of Keylite Roof Windows, reflects on the opportunities these proposals could bring for the sector.

From accelerating housing delivery to driving sustainable construction; Labour’s first budget outlines a £5 billion investment in housing, which includes plans to increase affordable housing and hire more planning officers to streamline housebuilding.

The introduction of new mandatory housebuilding targets, rising from 300,000 to 370,000 homes annually, has been cautiously welcomed by industry bodies like the Home Builders Federation. However, achieving these targets will rely heavily on overcoming longstanding planning challenges and broader economic pressures.

While these proposals suggest potential growth, the construction industry faces a cautiously optimistic outlook for 2025 and beyond. According to the Construction Products Association (CPA), private housing activity is set to grow modestly, with private housing repair, maintenance, and improvement (RMI) output forecast to rise by 3.0% in 2025 and 4.0% in 2026, following earlier declines.

In line with these modest expectations, Keylite remains focused on providing innovative, value-driven solutions while prioritising sustainable growth. Our range of products includes labour-saving features such as pre-fitted Flick-Fit Brackets and Sash Hinge Finger Springs, which simplify installation.

Additionally, our Integrated Expanding Thermal Collar, included as standard in all roof windows, helps improve energy efficiency by addressing cold bridging at the window-roof junction – ensuring compliance with Part L and the Future Homes Standard, set to take effect in 2025.

Recent investments in our factory in Poland have increased production capacity and efficiency, equipping us to adapt to evolving market demands. Robotic painting and automated machinery provide flexibility and allow us to respond swiftly to customer needs.

Keylite’s approach reflects the cautious optimism of the wider roofing industry. While nearly half of roofing contractors expect increased workloads in 2025, inflationary pressures, high interest rates and rising costs – including wage increases and national insurance changes – continue to weigh heavily on businesses. These challenges make it more important than ever for suppliers to deliver added value.

We offer our customers a range of support, including fast quote turnaround times and tailored, personalised service. Our dedicated customer and technical teams are committed to guiding clients through every stage of a project, from specification to installation, ensuring successful outcomes despite a challenging market.

Our Verified Installer programme, launched this year, connects homeowners with trusted installers trained to the highest standards. This initiative not only enhances service quality but also helps installers increase job opportunities through local referrals.

At Keylite, we believe that understanding customers at every level is vital to creating personalised experiences and delivering the best possible outcomes. By staying focused on innovation and customer care, we remain prepared to navigate the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
