Glazerite UK Group welcomes the introduction of Timberweld®
Trade fabricator, the Glazerite UK Group, has welcomed the introduction of Timberweld® technology to its Specials Division. Timberweld® – the patented method of welding corners on PVC-U to make an authentic timber butt joint effect – has been in use by Glazerite on its Residence 9 and Residence 7 products since July.
Ian Lloyd, Operations Director for Glazerite, says: “We first looked at Timberweld at the Fit Show in 2019 and we were impressed with the manufacturing efficiencies it would bring to our more handcrafted products, as well as the great aesthetics it replicates on the window. We are now manufacturing both R9 and R7 with a Timberweld sash and a mechanically jointed outerframe, mullion and transom, and we’re really pleased with the results so far.”
The Timberweld equipment, which includes new end millers, cutter sets and a specially adapted welder, was installed by Rugby-based Total Machinery Solutions (TMS) at Glazerite’s heritage-focused Specials Division in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. The site, in Stewarts Road, has been subject to regular investment since it was opened in 2017, with the £80,000 Timberweld spend part of a wider £1 million scheme to improve machinery, expand site presence and grow the Glazerite fleet over the last 18 months across the whole Group.
Ian adds: “Timberweld technology gives us greater flexibility and efficiencies in the manufacture and transport of frames, as windows can be ordered unglazed in both R9 and R7, depending on what is required for individual projects. It also allows for greater throughput of the products, and consistency in their finish.”
Following the successful commissioning of the machinery at the Specials Division, the company will be manufacturing Halo Flush Sash at their East Division to the same Timberweld specification from November, making Glazerite the first fabricator to manufacture the Halo product in this way.
