Pioneer helps keep things quiet in bustling Brick Lane

New residents in the middle of one of London’s busiest tourist spots can expect a little extra peace and quiet, thanks to specialist acoustic damping, including high specification acoustic windows by Pioneer Commercial.

The prestigious ‘Seven 7 Bricks’ residential and retail development is not only in the bustling Brick Lane market district but it is actually built around – and even partly under – a busy overground rail line with adjoining station, so sound damping was paramount in every element, according to Pioneer’s Commercial Manager, William Du Plooy:

“Acoustic insulation was one of the key planning requirements, beginning with a specialist day and night survey of vibration and noise from both rail and road traffic as well as the thousands of visitors every day to the famous street market. One of the report’s findings was that the level of noise, especially from road and rail demanded specialist construction and materials and this included the windows.”

Alongside other in-built sound insulation strategies, such as extra thick walls and acoustically broken foundations, the windows are constructed of high specification acoustic glass double glazed units in thermally broken Visoline aluminium frames, all designed to be visually in keeping with the contemporary, innovative styling of the overall building.

The development, of seven residential, three retail and one office unit, by Jaydan Construction for Charles James Developments, in what the developer describes as ‘this vibrant and exciting part of East London,’ was completed in March.

William Du Plooy added: “This is a very prestigious development of high value properties in one of London’s most fashionable areas so the response to the special acoustic requirements had to be of the highest specification throughout. As all the units were pre-sold before completion, we assume the buyers are all confident that we have achieved this.
