Rose Gold is the new gold in door furniture

Nick Dutton, CEO of Brisant-Secure, shares his inspiration for the introduction of Rose Gold on their Sweet door furniture range

Interior design trends often follow fashion and jewellery. This unique colour, Rose Gold, became incorporated into jewellery in 2012, becoming extremely popular by 2015, especially when Apple launched their new iPhone 6S in a very pink variation. Pantone named their colour of the year in 2016 to be rose quartz. The colour is warmer than the harsh classics of gold, silver and bronze and this softness makes it ideal for interior design. It is the new neutral. The millennial generation have adopted Rose Gold in their masses. It is incorporated into everything from architecture to hair dye. Rose Gold is no longer a trend, it is a colour that is here to stay. Fashion designers have found that the demand for Rose Gold accessories has not wavered. Raquel Scherer, Melissa Mar’s global marketing director, told the BBC, “We tried making our world best-selling product Melissa Mar sandals in lilac this season…but the lilac version didn’t sell at all and we had to increase our stock of this shoe in Rose Gold.”

Just walk around John Lewis department stores and see the kitchen worktops, back splashes, doorknobs, lights, light switches and taps all in Rose Gold. Tom Dixon majors on lighting with the brown/red copper tone that warms any room. Understanding that Rose Gold was here to stay is what prompted us to create our Sweet hardware system in Rose Gold. Door furniture may be architectural pieces of hardware and the first thing people see when they approach your house. But they set the tone inside the home. They should also work with the rest of interior design of your home.

Not only have we worked on the colour, but on the design as well. The letter plate now comes in two shapes, the original curved-end design is now joined by a square ended version. The new 2-part knocker operates in a traditional pull and drop method, but still stays true to the Sweet curved design ethos. Not only does this look great, but the shape of the handle stops intruders being able to grab it with mole grips, so is another deterrent against being burgled. The Sweet handle can be upgraded to the two-star security handle, which looks identical on the outside but has more security mechanisms within the handle itself. It is still the only handle to carry Sold Secure accreditation. When the door in the photo was installed with our first sample products, the following morning the postman commented unprompted that it was the nicest door hardware he had seen in his 35 years on the job – postie appeal!

In addition, we have launched a brand new 20-year guarantee on our Sweet hardware system. We took the decision to leap from ten years to twenty, after our letterplate has just celebrated its 1-year birthday in a salt-spray chamber. Standard products are designed to perform down to 10 or maybe 20 days. The choices we made in manufacturing, coating with multiple layers of brass and nickel, have paid off. It is designed to look great, for good. But then if it doesn’t, we don’t expect our customers to run around replacing them, we will sort it directly. Not only does Sweet hardware look good whatever the weather, it is now available in a colour that is being demanded by the public. Their front door is an expression of themselves, as much as their living rooms and kitchens. We are proud to be producing door hardware, that not only offers unrivalled security and will look good whatever the weather, but with Rose Gold, it is the colour that everyone wants.
