David & Roger Franklin and Fleetwood Architectural Aluminium celebrate 20-year partnership

For over 20 years, David & Roger Franklin have been supplying machinery and engineering support to Fleetwood Architectural Aluminium and 2020 sees the addition of a FOM Axel5 CNC Machining Centre to Fleetwood’s manufacturing facility.

Fleetwood Architectural Aluminium was formed by Taj Sangha in 1997 in Wootton Bassett. Rapid growth saw the opening of further manufacturing facilities in Langley and Slough and culminated in 2010 in the purchase of an 80,000 ft2 facility in Slough Trading Estate. Fleetwood purchased their first CNC machinery package from David and Roger Franklin in 2002 and the two companies have been working in partnership ever since. More recently D&R Franklin successfully installed a FOM LMT 60 line in 2015, significantly strengthening Fleetwood’s position as one of the major suppliers of architectural aluminium products in the UK. The purchase of the FOM Axel 5 CNC this year reflects Fleetwood’s commitment to investing in the future and reinforces their market leading reputation.

Armadeep Dhillon, Production Director at Fleetwood explains: “Our long-standing partnership with David & Roger Franklin is all about trust and loyalty. They have always provided us with a quick turnaround whenever we’ve had a problem and their after sales service, supply of spare parts and engineering expertise are second to none – they have definitely set the benchmark in terms of machine quality and customer service. Here at Fleetwood Architectural Aluminium we have a particularly strong portfolio of machines, all of which have been supplied and maintained by David & Roger Franklin. As a long established and constantly growing fabricator, our investment in state-of-the-art machinery such as the FOM LMT Line and Axel5 CNC enables us to remain versatile and flexible yet retain the capacity to manufacture quality aluminium products at high volume. We are delighted with the results from the FOM Axel5 so far and it has provided us with greater flexibility and compliments the FOM LMT 60 Line, retaining a high level of manufacturing accuracy and quality. The FOM Axel5 really is a flexible, high-precision machine and will enable us as a business to move forwards over the next few years and expand into consumer markets such as residential and home improvements. 2020 is a very exciting time for us as a business as we continue to see strong upward growth and opportunity.”

Incorporating FOM’s unique 5-axis head, the Axel5 is a powerful machining centre that can perform specialist cutting and machining work on aluminium and steel profiles. Power and flexibility make the Axel5 ideal for all 5-axis applications with features such as flow drilling, tapping and a ‘cut-and-divide’ function which allows bar length material to be machined, cut, separated and machined again making it ideal for the processing of curtain wall bars. The onboard tool magazine enables up to 20 tools to be readily available to the machining head and features a 500 dia. saw blade for all types of sawing including compound cuts and end notching. An angle gearbox is also available for working on the 4th face and on the ends of bars. Optional dual work area enables pendular loading allowing the operator to load and unload profiles whilst the machine continues to operate. The Axel5’s extensive configurations brings real engineering features to the fabricator’s workshop.

With over 36 years’ experience in the glazing industry, David & Roger Franklin prides itself on supplying top quality machinery and engineering solutions to UK fabricators. “The range of aluminium machinery we supply has proven over the last 20 years to provide our customers with the highest level of performance and reliability. Our customers are always at the heart of everything we do and we are particularly proud of our long-standing relationship with Fleetwood Architectural Aluminium. As a company we constantly strive to maintain the highest standard of engineering support and customer care, together with an unbiased and honest sales ethos” explains Company Director, Roger Franklin.
