Engineered to inspire

Made For Trade, the company behind the highly successful Korniche brand of roof lanterns and aluminium bi-folding doors, has witnessed seismic growth. The company now boasts turnover of over £35m and is well on the way to achieving its target of £45m to £50m. At the heart of the company’s success is its passion for designing innovative products that place the installer at the heart of everything it creates. Products are engineered to install faster and priced to sell – key characteristics that has made the company extremely popular with the trade installer market.

To support the growth of the Korniche brand, the company moved to an impressive new office and factory complex at Wellington House, Billingham on the outskirts of Stockton-on-Tees. On a recent open day, the team from Windows Active got the chance to view the operation and was left extremely impressed by how the company has developed into the business it is today. It has become a major aluminium systems company supplying a highly engineered, high quality range of products.

The latest addition to the Korniche brand has been the bi-fold door system, a product that has been expertly engineered that exudes the same quality in function that it does in design. The door will be much of the focus for visitors to the company’s stand at the up an coming FIT Show. The doors stand out unique feature is a specially designed and patented clip-in bead that allows the glass to be installed or replaced in minutes. Installers and users are greeted with host of other features that make the Korniche bi-fold door such an impressive product. These include a unique, pivoting axle in the rollers that allows the wheels to follow any undulations in the stainless-steel tracks underneath. Combined with sealed bearings in the stainless-steel wheels and lateral rollers, the doors will glide effortlessly and smoothly for years to come.  The doors also feature additional security in the form of a shoot-bolt handle that cannot be forced open from the outside. This is down to an innovative anti back-drive feature that is designed into it. It is also impossible to turn the handle at all while the key is still in the lock. This means that there is no risk of accidentally opening or damaging the doors as a result of the key remaining in place. Featuring polyamide thermal breaks, the bi- folding doors are designed to keep heat in and the cold out.

What makes Korniche products popular with the trade is their ability to save hours on site – and this is all down to the careful considerations that have been made when the products were being created. Having been engineered to install faster is very important in today’s market.
