Simplified fabrication, superior performance

Duncan Grover, Head of Product Management at Schüco UK, presents the newest additions to the Residential Product Range

Simplified fabrication is our promise for the newly launched ASE 51PD sliding door and the AWS 80 SC window system.

These new products offer simplified and faster fabrication without compromising on the quality that is synonymous with the Schüco brand. Featuring slim sightlines, elegant design and superior thermal performance, these products are expected to attract significant interest from homeowners.

The ASE 51 PD sliding door

We’ve designed our new panoramic style sliding door with the extremely slim sightlines and minimalist design popular with homeowners, but without the risky fabrication such products usually command.

The ASE 51 PD sliding door boasts a 32mm interlock and slim 45mm outer frame, which can be integrated within a building’s structure. The system can accommodate large door sizes, with sashes up to 2900 mm wide and 2750 mm high for maximum transparency.

The door’s three-point locking mechanism is elegantly integrated within the door frame, complemented by a newly designed handle. This new Schüco handle allows the door to be unlocked with a reduced rotation of just 20 degrees, to follow the natural ergonomics of the hand and wrist for intuitive and easy operation.

The door’s unique design eliminates the need for structural bonding between the glass and vent profile, enabling quicker and easier vent assembly. Fabrication is further simplified with a wraparound system with screw port connection. A reduced profile selection provides a wide range of design possibilities with fewer profile types to keep in stock.

The sliding door is available with a variety of threshold options including a concealed level threshold with external ‘aco’ style gutter profile, and a low threshold option suited to refurbishment projects. System extension packers are available to accommodate ventilation requirements without impacting on the system’s design.

The system can accommodate both double and triple glazed units, with options for 200kg and 400kg rollers – the latter adjustable to accommodate building tolerances, making installation easier.

The AWS 80 SC window system

Our new window was developed specifically for the UK market, in close collaboration with our fabricator partners to ensure its design and performance met their needs. Consulting with our partners right from the beginning of the process meant we were able to incorporate their wish list into the design brief.

A major benefit of the new Schüco window system is its greatly reduced fabrication time. The AWS 80 SC is engineered for simplicity, using as few elements as possible for easier manufacture. Screw ports to connect mullion and transom allow the outer frame to be constructed first with inner sections added afterwards, speeding up the fabrication process.

Despite its simple construction, the window doesn’t compromise on aesthetics, offering narrow sightlines of 46mm for fixed lights and 74mm for opening units, no matter the window configuration. Its flush design enables multiple configurations while negating the need for numerous different components or a dummy vent.

Improved thermal performance means the AWS 80 SC surpasses current standards required by Part L and we anticipate it will comply with the upcoming Future Homes Standard.

Our partners asked us for PAS 24 certification for the whole system on its launch so we tested every configuration and add-on profile, in every possible combination. The window launched with PAS 24 certificates for the whole system.

Our partners also asked us to ensure all the components for this product are sourced in the UK to reduce the environmental impact of transportation. So, all aluminium extrusions and fittings for the new window are from UK suppliers.

The window has already achieved success for early adopters, helping them to win projects thanks to its design innovations.

We’re proud of the significant innovation in product development that our new sliding door and window system represent. These high specification products have been designed to deliver improved technical performance while streamlining fabrication processes for our partners.

You can see the new sliding door and window in the Schüco showroom in Milton Keynes.
