Reynaers installer event underlines sustainability’s crucial role
During an open day at Reynaers Aluminium UK in Birmingham, installers were encouraged to prioritize sustainability in their offerings to homeowners. The event focused on product development, installer support, and impending changes to building regulations. John McComb, Reynaers’ Technical Director, emphasized the growing importance of sustainability, especially with the Future Homes Standard coming into effect in 2025.
McComb highlighted that while commercial sectors have adopted sustainability due to environmental, social, and corporate governance goals, the residential sector is largely driven by regulations rather than customer demand. However, he cautioned that the trend is shifting as homeowners increasingly consider environmental impacts in their decisions. He urged installers to prepare for this change, suggesting it’s an opportunity to stay ahead in the industry by demonstrating their environmental credentials.
Reynaers has focused on sustainability through its Reynaers Act strategy. The company aims to significantly reduce its direct and indirect carbon emissions by 2030 and is increasing its use of low-carbon aluminium. Currently, 40% of Reynaers’ turnover comes from nine systems certified to Cradle to Cradle standards, with plans to certify nine more systems by 2024.
Starting from 2024, Reynaers will add digital passports to all its products. These passports will provide detailed information on materials used and end-of-life instructions to facilitate reuse.
The open day also highlighted Reynaers’ support for installers through its customer portal. This support includes free access to product images, renders, showroom assets, logos, and product brochures. Additionally, Reynaers’ website connects homeowners directly with local installers, offering further support to its partners.
McComb’s message was clear: sustainability is becoming increasingly vital in the residential sector, and installers need to adapt to meet this emerging demand. Reynaers is committed to aiding this transition through its sustainability initiatives and support for installers.
